Happy Valentine’s Day to all you sweethearts that stop by and check in! Hope your day has been full of sweet moments of kindness and affection. In the words of the very insightful Beatles, “love is all there is you need.” Really and truly. It’s the core of everything right and good and if we all always came from that place in our heart, our worlds — the whole world — would be a pretty rockin’, inspiring, wonderful, place to be. Let’s do our part and make our own little places of being at least, the best they can be. Huge hugs and kisses to all of you! Thanks for all the love!

Oh, and a little gift in honor of the day — a wonderful sounding chocolate mousse by Herve This made with just two ingredients — melted chocolate and water!! How totally easy and low-cal cool is that? Get whipping! : )

Herve This Chocolate Mousse
Serves 4

8 ounces chocolate (we used 70% bittersweet – choose a high quality chocolate you love)

3/4 cup (6 ounces) water
ice cubes
freshly whipped cream for topping (optional)

1. Simply pour water into a saucepan. Then, over medium heat, whisk in the chocolate. The result is a homogenous sauce.

2. Pour the chocolate mixture into a bowl set over an ice bath, then whisk the chocolate sauce, either manually with a whisk or with an electric mixer (if using an electric mixer, watch closely — it will thicken faster). It will thicken and strands of chocolate will form inside the loops of the whisk. Pour or spoon immediately into ramekins, small bowls or jars and let set.

3. Note: Three things can go wrong. Here’s how to fix them. If your chocolate doesn’t contain enough fat, melt the mixture again, add some chocolate, and then whisk it again. If the mousse is not light enough, melt the mixture again, add some water, and whisk it once more. If you whisk it too much, so that it becomes grainy, this means that the foam has turned into an emulsion. In that case simply melt the mixture and whisk it again, adding nothing.

4. Serve immediately, or refrigerate. Top with whipped cream if desired.

XOXOX!

Happy Lovey Dovey Day

It’s Valentines today — a day devoted to everything red and white and matters of the heart. I know it can be pretty hokey and a bit false, but all in all, I think love deserves a day and I support it. Not the hyped up, retail pressure part of the day, but the nod to love. It’s quite an important occasion when you step back and think about it. It really should be a day where we all reach out to the people we love, spend time with those we can, write notes and poems, make youtube videos. Simply celebrate love in its many forms because whether you are in a relationship or not, we all have love in our life. So, to all my followers — people that I love, here is my silly but sincere verse of Valentines Day adoration for you:

A Valentines Verse of Adoration

Last night they showed some lotto winners
And there were ads for casino “sinners”
All rolling in money, happy and grinning
Of course they were since they all were winning
There were also TV and movie stars
Plus a show with couples in really nice cars
There were big jewels and people riding in jets
And for a minute I thought “that’s as good as it gets”
But you know what? not really, it’s just not true
‘Cause none of them have friends and family like you
I’d like those things — there’s no real doubt
But none of it is what a good life’s about
How lucky I am for the good choice I made
Getting Glen in my life and how committed we’ve stayed
My life’s full of love from my family and friends every day
And thats the way to live a good life, oh yes, thats the way

Okay, so on other matters related to living the good life. well, we have been having ourselves some fun. At friday night band practice we celebrated Scott’s bday with heart-shaped pizzas from Papa Murphy’s and chocolate decadence cake. yum! Then Tamy and I watched the whole Olympics opening reviewing it the whole time (we gave it a solid B — a little confusing on theme at times) and catching late night TV until the guys broke it up finally around 1 am. How did that much time go by?

Yesterday, I finished off my thorough cleaning of upstairs and came up with a LARGE pile of things headed to Goodwill (pile of crapola above.) Good on me. Glen was particularly thrilled. The sad part of it all is that, honestly, there really still is more I could have passed along. I also got in a Jazzercise session and Glen and I went down for a very nice late lunch of Bloody Marys and seafood stew at Ivars. We came back, had naps!, and watched the Olympics in the evening while I organized that huge pile of magazines that had stacked up.

Which brings us to today. Now yesterday, in fact, as recent as last night, I had planned to get us on the road and walking around Green Lake today. But somehow this morning we actually slept in till 8:00, I watched the Sunday Morning Show (my favorite! thanks mom and dad for the tip on that one) read the paper and now I’m catching up with all of you. So, it’s already 10 am, here I sit typing and Green Lake is a pass because . . . I have more cleaning/organizing to do and we have a party to get to this afternoon.

We get to see our GHB family at a Chinese New Year/Valentines Day get-together over at Lisa’s this afternoon. We’re bringing fried rice, which I still need to make of course.

So, there you have it ladies and gentlemen — love makes the world go round. It sure does keep mine wonderful and full. Thanks for sharing the love with me. Love you back!
