Some weekend highlights:
- I found chocolate covered strawberries at Costco. Costco! Twelve giant size strawberries for only $9.95. That, my friends, is one heck of a deal.
- You’ll be surprised to hear however, that I wasn’t a total piglet with them. I was quite generous and brought them along to Cindy’s for noshing during Friday Night Lights. Now that was true heaven. We had a ball!
- Her new condo looks like a spread from Pottery Barn. Really beautiful.
- Saturday morning Glen and I finally tackled getting the fridge and freezer cleaned and organized. And I managed to get two kitchen cabinets updated as well. I really should have taken my usual before and after photos because the improvements are significant. Plus the hot tub got emptied, scrubbed and refilled. I think it might be calling my name tonight.
- Saturday afternoon Glen headed over to help Diana and Tea came and picked me up for shopping at the mall. What a blast! We had so much fun. We were mothers day shopping and ooooing and aaaahing as we went along. My kid totally surprised and spoiled me though by sneak buying me super fun Betsy Johnson earrings when I wasn’t looking. She is good! And I was completely touched. It’s good to be a mom once removed. : )
- Then we headed over to meet Diana and Glen and see one of our other special kids. Kaylee started as a hostess at PF Changs and we went to surprise her and slurp down some cocktails and appetizers. It turned out to be happy hour so we hit it just right — yummy food for discounted prices. Best of all, Kaylee seemed happy to see us — and we loved seeing her of course.
- Today we were up early and I headed to Jazzercise. Only four of us made it this morning but it was a good start to this really beautiful day.
- Mom and dad picked us up to head down to our Mom’s Day brunch at Jen/Rod’s. Their place looked beautiful. Jen had made a gorgeous salad and we all had a really nice, casual, tasty meal together. My family is the best. And my wonderful mother deserves every bit of celebration that the day is devoted to.
- Which then brings me to this afternoon and the nice long walk Glen, Dandy and I just got back from.
- Oh plus, some Bake-Off notes. I made one of the dishes from the Bake-Off this morning and it got a full round of thumbs-up from the family. I’m off my game though because I missed taking pictures of it as well. But next time you need a morning dish, try the Orange Coconut Rolls. They are an entry from Joan Cossette from eastern Washington and very good. The only change I made to the recipe was using apricot jam rather than orange marmalade because that’s what I had. Maybe the best part is that they were super easy to make. The other update is that Pillsbury sent us all a photo of the whole group of us which I posted above. Check it out to see if you can find me in the photo!
- Lastly, most importantly, a shout out to all you moms. Every mom in my life impresses me — from new moms starting out to great grandmas who have been “moming” for a really long time. It’s a lifetime job that you all take on generously and willingly and without complaint. Which is especially amazing to people like me because its a really hard job. You all do it so well, with so much love and caring and self-sacrifice and I think every one of you is really amazing. Most especially my mom because I personally know the challenges she has had and how, no matter what was thrown at her, she has loved all three of us girls every single day since she had us (many decades ago at this point.) Thanks mom!
