Time to go home

We have had an exceptionally fun weekend down in California doing not much except visit and laugh. Glen especially. Last night was the big reunion and he and his friends headed out at 5:30 and got back to the hotel about 1:30 with plenty of stories to tell! They all had a blast. One of the things clearly nice about getting older is the mellowing out and that can make for great reunions.

Meanwhile, I grabbed one of the other wives and we headed for dinner and a movie. Which was really appropiate since the movie was “Julie and Julia.” What a fun evening. We had mediterranean salads for dinner (yum!) but had to eat fast to get to the flick. We made it on time but with only “seating up front” so we viewed the show from the third row and still enjoyed it. My goodness that is close though.

So, I have a couple of predictions from the movie:

  • blogging is going to get even more popular
  • Julia Child dinner parties are going to be all the vogue!

Obviously, I already have the blog going but the whole Julia Child dinner party idea I find really intriguing. I’m not one for complicated cooking or entertaining and trust me when I say as many times as not, my food doesn’t seem to quite work out. But I do enjoy entertaining and am always interested in a new theme. Cooking with Julia seems to scream new theme.

I’m pretty sure Julia has some fairly simple but delicious recipes in her cookbook and that’s where I plan to start. And I’m pretty sure I have a few friends that would be game to help cook their own dinner so the throwdown is soon to be in motion! I’ll keep you posted on how it all comes together. In the meantime though, go check out the movie and pass along your ideas for a great Cooking with Julia dinner party. I am super interested.

We fly home this afternoon but on our way to the airport, we are going to hit a bookstore (love that!) and I’ll be perusing the cookbook section. Gotta get planning the next party and flying always presents a few quiet hours for dreaming, planning, catching up. Love it!

A class reunion really reminds you of how fast life goes. Now August is flying by and we’re already flying home. Make every minute count!
