I have another special person for you all to meet – Enjoy!
So let’s plunge right in cute girl, who are you and where do you live and how do you know me?
My name is Anita Schuler and I live in Philadelphia. I met you when I was 16, I was all dressed up for my first interview for my first job at Great Harvest Bread Company. You and Glen gave me the opportunity to earn money, learn skills and become part of a community of loving people. Thank you
We were the lucky ones! So you’re from Seattle but now you live in Philly, how the heck did that happen? I’m still pondering it! : )
Wow, I’m not sure I even know! I guess the simplest answer is that I fell in love. Cheesy I know! But truth be told I fell in love and,on a whim, decided to go on an adventure. It was a very sudden decision and I told myself that if I don’t go for it that I might regret not taking that risk. I believe that when I made the decision to leave all my friends and family it was definitely for selfish reasons but I think it was something I needed to do. Something that in itself is very hard to put into words.
So, I know you keep super busy back there where do you work/what do you do?
I am a manager at a Saxbys Coffee shop. If you haven’t heard of Saxbys I won’t be mad. There are roughly 40 Saxbys in the nation, all of which are mostly on the east coast with a few in Texas. I like to think we are going to take over. I supply the dear people out there with their coffee addiction and am proud of it! Saxbys is very delicious. If you ever happen to be in Philly stop by, I’ll make you a latte with love.
You gave me a nice blingy mug from there that I love and get comments on all the time. How about in your spare time? What keeps you busy?
Who, is more like it! One word: Sebastian. My three year old son is what mostly keeps me moving around here. Just the other night I had dinner on the stove and him in the tub. I was running back and forth making sure our dinner wasn’t going to burn to the bottom of the pan and then running back into the bathroom to wash a limb on my child! I think it took about four times going back and forth until the whole body was washed. And no, dinner was not burnt to a crisp. Now that is talent. : ) In our spare time Sebastian and I like to play outside. He loves the outdoors and so do I. Otherwise, if we are stuck inside we love to read books together and do puzzles and if I’m feeling like a chipper mom I might even whip out the play-doh. Even though I know two days later I am going to wince when I see puke colors glob dried into my carpet…but that’s the joys of motherhood.
What kind of foods do you like to eat?
Food is amazing. I love food! I think food is way more important than just something we all have to do to survive. Sure that’s true because obviously we have to eat to live but the food that we put into our bodies is just as important. So what kinds of food do I like to eat? Wholesome foods. Foods that make you say yumm, that was delicious and it makes my body feel great too! Mind you I don’t say that out loud after every meal I eat but I sure do think it!! I adore veggies. All kinds. The more in a dish the better and the more colors makes it more yummy. People say I like to paint a picture with food : ) But right now (because this might actually change tomorrow, that’s how big of a foodie I am) my favorite food is a nice, juicy, fat, wholesome veggie burrito. Great! Now I want one.
Laugh out loud you goof! It does sound great. I know you don’t like fruit though! But since we’re talking on cooking have you got a favorite thing you like to make and can we get the recipe?
I would say my signature dish would have to be Chicken Marsala. I’ll have to cook up a tutorial and send it right over for the readers!
Can’t wait! Meanwhile, what would people be surprised to learn about you?
I guess I surprise people all the time when I tell them that I’m 23, have a 3 year old and am a newlywed. Go figure.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Right now for us traveling mainly consists of Seattle and I love going back home because really, there’s nothing better than the Northwest! But my favorite place to travel is Europe. I’ve only been to a few countries but the ones I want to see the most are France, the United Kingdom, Greece and Ireland.
You are great at managing your coffee shop but looking ahead what would be your dream career?
I would like to be a hair stylist. I would like to own my own boutique. I would like to be a stay at home mom. I would like to be a full time blogger/writer. Everyday I add on to that list. I want to have a career of all of my dreams put together. What can I say I dream big!
I actually think that combination could work! You’ll be great at all of those things. Now, if you could ask three people over for dinner – living or dead — not family related – who would you choose?
Kurt Cobain would be my first choice. I just think it would be cool to get to know a rock legend. I would love to have dinner with Edward Cullen err, I mean Robert Pattinson from the Twilight movies. Just so I can stare at him the whole time and maybe tell him to bite me. Judge if you must. Than lastly I would have to pick Ellen Degeneres because she would make me laugh the most.
Glen would want to be at that dinner! He is a big Ellen fan. I love her self effacing humor too and how she kind of keeps everything light and positive. Being on her show is one of my life goals! I mean since Oprah went away now and all. I’m sure if we got on there one of the questions they might ask would be what’s the last book you read and what’s your review on it? thumbs up/down/sideways?
The End of Everything by Megan Abbott. Totally thumbs up. Such a sublime and mystifying story. It was like you are trying to find the truth in a never-ending fog. It’s a story being told by a 13-year-old girl. It’s such a strange book to say I loved because it almost feels inappropriate of me to say. I could hardly put it down though and then towards the end I couldn’t finish it. I had to go away because I didn’t want it to end. Great book. Must read.
I can’t wait to read it — we picked it for our first book at our newly formed book club too so we’ll be talking more on this topic and book next month for sure. How ‘bout movie? Have you seen anything lately? I know that’s not easy when you’ve got a busy busy three-year-old.
I think the last movie Bobby and I saw in the theaters was Transformers 3. Bobby’s pick. Not bad. The action was there but the new girl in it annoyed me. Shia Labeouf is all I had my eye on
Do you have a hobby?
Photography. I shoot with a Canon Rebel XS with varies lenses. I have my camera with me everywhere I go and I’ve made it a goal in life to capture every special moment. It’s become a hobby and Bobby just got me a new lens for my birthday plus a few other gadgets.
I drool over your photos all the time. I’m going to have to get on the stick and get me one of those bad boy cameras one of these days too! I happen to know something else though you’re good at. Besides your boys, I know you love something as much as I do — tell everyone about your blog.
Calico Tales is my little corner of the world wide web. It started out being a way for family and friends to get a glimpse of our day to day life but has grown into something a lot bigger. I share things like recipes, things I love, our adventures and also things I learn on this never ending journey called motherhood. (It’s calicoootales.blogspot.com — check it out to follow along on Anita’s full, fun, life.)
Every interview needs something a little unexpected so here’s my wild card question for you: If you were an animal, what would you be?
An OWL! Barn Owl to be exact.
Excellent choice! They’re very cool and really a pretty rare bird. : ) Time to go already! Any last words for our readers today?
Thanks for having me Julee! Calico Tales wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you : ) Love you and thanks for letting your readers get to know me.
