Rain has moved back to the Pacific Northwest, so we had showers for our shower yesterday. Personally, I thought it was the perfect, cozy, backdrop for our party seeings how the dark clouds added to the “Red, White and Brie” theme. In fact, not only was yesterday Brie’s shower day it was also her birthday so the pressure was definitely on to make it a good day!
Brie and Kyle’s wedding is set for November 3 with a red, white and black color scheme which drove the plans for the shower. Tea came early and I got a nice surge of help from Tina too right before most guests arrived so united we pulled it together with barely a hitch.
All the guests looked great decked out in the theme colors and Brie glowed. She has that extra beauty that brides get the weeks — months even — before the big day and a ready smile as well. And I was so glad her mom — my good friend Tamy — got to make it too since they’ve been dealing with a seriously ill family member that has added a layer of concern and anxiety to their lives right now.
I made appetizers to serve and Tea knocked it out of the park with her homemade red velvet cupcakes for dessert. Our menu was:
Dark & Stormy martini’s made with black vodka
Red & white wines
Individual veggie cups
Shrimp salad on endive leaves
Halibut spread on toasts
Brie cheeses with crackers & grapes
Baked potato chowder
Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and black sprinkles
Tea and I had a great time putting this party for Brie and I think she enjoyed the time getting to be the special bride-to-be. Being engaged is such a fun time in a couple’s life — especially for us girls — that I wanted to be sure and try to make it special and memorable for her.
After everyone left Tea and I sank into the couches for a couple hours with big cups of coffee and caught “Rock of Ages” the movie on On-Demand so we could compare it to the live Broadway version we saw when we were in NYC last month. No comparison! It had big name stars in it like Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Russel Brand but we both definitely felt like it didn’t touch seeing it live. And I admit, we felt a little smug about having seen the “real” production.
The day had started with mom and dad treating a bunch of us to breakfast out which is always one of my favorite ways to start a day so from start to finish Saturday, October 13, featuring:
breakfast out with family
time spent with friends
meeting new friends
watching a movie with one of my kids
I’d give that day a 10 plus! Hope your day scored so high too.
