a weekend of “no”

Gosh y’all on this lazy end-of-summer weekend, I got nothing to offer you but random “nothings” really. It’s been my weekend of “no” where we said “no” to most invites and “yes” to no need to be anywhere. Aside from final book-related stuff, and my usual chore list, I’ve been close to completely unproductive. Glen on the other hand has been a whirling dervish of activity! That boy has done great at getting us weatherized and ready for winter.

He has done fabulous! At the same time, he did manage to get in eight hours straight of watching college ball with our kid Brian yesterday afternoon/evening! They each took a couch and had a sports fest with beer and popcorn. It was good to have Brian here to scream at the TV with him. :)

In the meantime, I’ve paid bills, planned a shower, schemed on book club, done some walking, went lamp shopping (nuttin’!), organized my magazine baskets, mooched veggies off my sister, and hit the grocery store and Target. Mostly that has left a bunch of time for lazin’.

Today though, we’re breaking that trend and I’m ready. I love down time but after a bit, I’m ready to roll again. So lucky me, we’ve got something to “roll on” today. We’re meeting our good friends, Tina and Jeff,  to do some wine tasting. In fact, one of the local wineries is having an all-day Art, Jazz and Wine event so we’re headed there and then going on to a late lunch. Our weather is still ideal so the afternoon sounds wonderful.

Tomorrow I plan to pop into work for just a bit — just can’t stay away!  – and then I’m actually going to try my hand at baking something. Which I will be serving tomorrow evening when the fam comes over for dinner. Fingers crossed! Me and baking rarely seem “aligned.”

I do better with dinner planning and throwing together meals — things that don’t have to be measured! We’ve been eating some great veggies this weekend. I cooked up some beautiful purple carrots I got from my sis, yellow squash my other sis grew for me and made a summer cucumber salad  with homegrown cucumbers.

And check this fun jar out — my other sister has zuchini going crazy in her garden and spent yesterday making zuchini pickles. Clever and pretty dang cool.

Meanwhile, me, well I’ll be here lazin and grazin.  :)  Don’t follow my lead! Get out there!
