meet brieanna!

I have such a cool interview and person for you to meet tonight that I can’t even wait for her to give me her recipe  to post this!  I’ll do a separate post with her yummy sounding peanut butter pie recipe that you are soooo going to want to try but in the meantime, enjoy meeting another one of my very favorite people — Brieanna Bagan! (my editor!)

So Breeze, tell everyone who you are, where you live and how you know me

I’m Brieanna. I live in Mill Creek (right across the street from the Town Center, super wonderful!). And I know Julee because she used to work with Mike Gianunzio, who is a good family friend, and our families were introduced at a dinner party.  Now, Julee’s husband Glen and my Dad are in a band together AND her fantastic husband is about to marry me and my guy.  :)

He is beyond honored that you and Kyle asked him to be the officiant. That big event is happening in November and I can hardly wait. How about telling everyone a little bit more about you.

I’m a down-to-earth gal who is just trying to figure life out. I’ve made it my goal to try and find the joy in life each day. You can check back in with me in a month to see how that’s workin’.

I love that description! I think you do a great job of being joyous. Now I’m thinking, everyone would be very interested in hearing about your unusual job.

I work for..wait for it…the North Pacific Fishing Vessel Owners’ Association Vessel Safety Program (NPFVOA for short). Whew! It’s a mouth full. We are a little not-for-profit company that teaches safety classes for fishermen (yes, I’ve met all those Deadliest Catch guys.) We teach mainly how to conduct drills on board, a hazardous response course, firefighting at sea, and medical emergencies at sea. The fishing community is 100% self-sustaining once they are out in the Bering Sea (911 isn’t an option out there after all) so they have got to know their stuff! I put on fundraising events, do billing, help out in classes, and pretty much anything else that needs to be prepped or organized there.

I love that that is your job! It’s very unique. It’s a great out of college job to be able to put on your resume. When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?

I am a devout reader, a baking fiend, and a hot yoga enthusiast. I love going out with my fiancé, Kyle, and my life is currently consumed with wedding tasks!

That’s a pretty cool, eclectic list. On a totally different note, what’s your favorite foods or dishes?

My absolute, hands down favorite food on the planet is fondue!

Excellent choice! There aren’t too many things better than a great cheese fondue unless maybe its a dark chocolate dessert fondue. Oh yea. I know you’re stretching into baking some cool things. Got a favorite thing you like to make and can we get the recipe?

The current kick I’m on for the summer is ‘baking’ without the oven on. I got a great recipe for peanut butter pie from a girl at work and it’s a hit. This seriously takes 5 minutes to put together and tastes like peanut butter ice cream.

Five minutes, tastes like peanut butter and you don’t have to bake it — I’m in! As I’ve gotten the chance to get to know you there’s been things that have surprised me along the way like your pretty dessert making but what else might people be surprised to learn about you?

I really want to be irresponsible, take my life savings, head out the door and see where the wind blows me. Spain is calling my name.

Hola! What a great country to choose — romantic, hip, with great wine. Do you have a dream you’d like to pursue or a dream career?

My love is words. I wish my writing better reflected some of the crazy things I dream up so I could cash in on them and write full time and live in the tropics. I also love the idea of being able to open an auto shop so Kyle could work on all the cars he could dream of (I’m not yet sold on the reality of being a business owner and the daily grind that entails…we’ll see though).

You are so, so, so good with words. I just know you are going to end up writing some great works! Write a best seller and Kyle can just pick up the cars you both love as hobby vehicles without the business pressures. : ) So now for one of my very favorite questions, if you could ask three people over for dinner – living or dead — not family related – who would you choose?

I would invite Emily Hahn. She wrote a book titled “Nobody Said Not to Go.” She was so full of life and had lots of crazy antics (like taking her pet gibbon to dinner parties!) and never set limits for herself. Look her up if you have time, she’s fascinating.

I’m going to have to — I literally have never heard of her. Can’t wait to check her out.

I would ask Dorothy Parker over as well. She grew up in the same time period as Emily Hahn and had a real presence in the literary community. She was also a real smartass; a quality that I think is highly underappreciated at times.

Love her!

Last I would choose Johnny Depp. I like eccentric people, real characters who challenge the assumptions you make about them. I think he would be a good fit for those ladies – it would be a very lively dinner!

That would be one heck of a fondue party! Speaking of authors, you are the most voracious reader I know! What’s a recent book you have read and what’s your review on it? thumbs up/down/sideways?

I just finished Helix by Eric Brown. He’s a British Sy-Fy author and he tackles some really interesting concepts in his work. This book centered on the human race destroying our planet and the mission that 4,000 people undertake to seek a new habitable planet and the quest to tackle the inherent human flaws that led to the destruction of Earth. It’s got a little bit of everything in there: romance, action, aliens… I give it thumbs up. Every single book I’ve read by him has something different so I like to keep going back to his novels.

You and I like a lot of the same kind of books — lots of post apocalyptic stuff. This sounds like another one to add to my reading list. How ‘bout movie? Seen anything good lately?

I have to confess I haven’t seen a movie in a while. I just recently got cable and internet at home (after 3 years of living in the dark ages) and I still can’t find anything to watch…I do like to order every season of a show on NetFlix and watch it without commercials. I love Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, and How I Met Your Mother.

Do you have any fun hobbies?

I’m on a bowling league! My team’s called the Wino-Rhino’s and we play every other Saturday night. It’s a blast. I also have a fantastic book club that doesn’t meet nearly enough…

Best book club ever! Here’s my wild card question for you: If there was a movie made about your life so far, what would it be called and who do you think should play you and Kyle?

The movie would be called Ripple Effect. I like the idea that there are consequences (good and bad) for all your actions and you just don’t know how your choices will affect you down the line. You never know who you will run into out there and what role they will play in your life. For example, I met Kyle when I was 16. We were just acquaintances but we re-met at 20 and the rest is history. :)  I also like Ripple Effect because it seems like there should be some Die Hard type stunts in a movie with that name. Oooh, let’s see, who would I chose to play us? Kyle would be played by Bear Grylls because he is a total adrenaline junkie (one of the first big bonding activities we did was skydiving with my dad and our roommates) and because I have a total crush on Bear. And I would be played by Zooey Deschanel. She’s quirky and I find her refreshing.

Could you possibly have a more clever answer? So fun! Guess that brings us to the end of our time today, darn it. Any last words for our readers?

Enjoy it while you can! Life goes by at warp speed.

Boy is that the truth!  Thanks Brie!!
