weekend wrapup

Well it was a big, big weekend for our little family around here — we grew by one member! And when I say big, I mean it in a giant 20 pound mane coon cat kind of way (you can’t really tell his size in this picture) since my pet-loving husband brought home a 10-year old boy named Buster who needed a home. I’ve never seen such a big cat! Our little girl Belle that we lost in May was always an itty bitty so Buster seems especially large. I would describe him so far as a “man’s cat”. He’s a bit gruff, not a cuddler and he’ll swat you a good one when he doesn’t want any loving. But he’s landed in the jackpot of pet land with my guy so hopefully he’ll start to trust us a bit as time goes on.

So big Buster is staying inside despite his curiosity with looking out the window — especially at our buzzy hummingbirds. We have the most lovely bunch of hummers that visit our feeders — front and back of our house — each day. Glen especially enjoys them and caught this great photo of one  yesterday. So cute!

Speaking of so cute, this is the animal post I guess, cause I have to share this pic of our other giant size guy. Dandy has taken to slipping out the back door lately and enjoying the yard from the shady area under one of our trees. I love how cute he is here and how at peace. Love this boy!

We squeezed in some good card-playing fun with my folks over the weekend but mostly it was chores, chores, chores.  Snore, snore, snore. :) Okay, yes, they are necessary but I sure would like some kind of genie in a bottle to blink  them done! Plus our plum tree is going crazy this year so I decided to tackle plum preserves. I’m so funny thinking I could take that on! The plums definitely won that round. At one point pretty much every counter top in the kitchen was a plum shade of red! What a disaster. And could I get that jam to thicken up? So frustrating! Still I made some nice plum cobbler out of it that got thumbs up from the folks and Glen so it wasn’t all bad. But it took me most of today for not much to show.

Our local fair starts this week and summer is starting to count down now to back-to-school. I put away my beach theme decor this afternoon and got out the sunflowers. Our weather is absolutely perfect and I’m fighting a restlessness with work that these kinds of days can bring. C’mon lotto! Enjoy each moment of this beautiful time of the year!
