My “good” friend Mitzi today sent me a link to a clip on a legitimate TV site where she and her sister were part of the crowd filmed. I clicked on the link and . . . it wiped out everything on my profile at work!!! What a way to start the day huh? Unbeknownst, of course to her, the link had some kind of vicious virus attached to it and my click sent it zipping through my machine.
But this isn’t a woe is me story actually. First of all, our help desk staff at work rock the planet and I’d like to have them come live with me. They kicked right into action and had sent someone for my computer within ten minutes. It took them several hours but they were kung fu masters against that bad ass virus. Take that you malevolent invader!
The coolest part of this though was that it got me off the computer for a change and it really was a great day. It’s almost impossible to remember the “good ole days” when computers were not a resource we had. Instead everything was done by writing it out and handing it to one of our administrative assistants to type up. We would do spread sheets by hand and send out mail – and receive mail. Answer the phone that rang loud and often. Now, almost none of those things are part of my daily routine. Today without my computer let me catch up on some piles, give my office some overdue cleaning, organize some stacks and even file a pile. All in all, I give the day a super A+ for work done and an A+++ for reminding me to flow with whatever comes my way. Some of the best stuff comes out of the worst starts.
