summer fun

With apologies to all of you not living in the Northwest, we had the PERFECT summer day here yesterday. High 70s/low 80s with a light breeze and a spring in our steps.  Unlike much of the country, we don’t get that many summer sunshine days so when we get em, we love em and we get out in them.  It was just an all around great day.

Glen and I got up and out early with a nice long walk. Weed pulling followed for him while I worked on the household chore list. Then promptly at 11:30 my sister Lora, picked me up in her convertible Mini Cooper and we went cruising on over to my other sister’s place, loaded up and headed for some fun in Seattle. We wandered a bit with the others out enjoying a Seattle summer day and made our way to Cheesecake Factory for a fun lunch together. It was actually packed but we scored and got right in.

From there, we were off to our main event — I had tickets to Rent at the 5th Avenue Theater. Have you ever caught this popular musical? First time for me and I would give it mixed reviews. I think it might be the first time I’ve been to a show where the whole thing is sung — no straight dialogue. It was a confusing story line to follow but important. I don’t know for sure, but I am betting this musical was written first in the 80s because its largely centered on homelessness and AIDS. Fortunately, at this point, it felt a little dated since so much progress has been made on that ravaging disease. It was well done and ended on an uplifting note and the three of us walked out feeling lifted up not brought down.

Maybe that was the play or maybe that was just the sunshine working and having fun together as sisters. Whatever it was, it was a whole bunch of fun.

Glen picked me up at Jen’s and we continued our whole bunch of fun with some of our best buds. Rick and Tamy hosted a mini goodbye barbecue for his mom Pat who has been staying for a few weeks. We ate in their beautiful backyard “park”. This time of year there are gorgeous flowers blooming everywhere in their garden. Rick told me yesterday there are over 30 kinds of different flowers! Such a beautiful setting with such fun friends. We were joined by good friends Scott and Denise; the happy engaged couple — Brie and Kyle; Kyle’s lovely sister, Kayla; and an extra special guest up from Oregon to escort her mom home, Rick’s sister Maggie who I always love catching up with. (Hi Maggie! :) )

Tamy and Rick made us these great summer salads with steak or salmon which really was the perfect dinner menu on a hot summer day. It all made for a fine end to a PERFECT summer day.

Today the sun is bright and shiny already out there and I suspect we have another exceptional day ahead. There’s more chores on our list today, a bike ride ahead, I have to work on the book and Glen’s still out pulling weeds. But, my parents are home from their fun cruise and we get to catch up with them tonight! It’s family night at Jen and Rod’s so this beautiful, summer weekend is sure to end on a wonderful high note.

So,, shhhhhhh, we’re living the summertime good life up here in the northwest but if anyone asks be sure to tell them all it does is rain!
