It was another fabulously fun meeting of the Chatty Chicks last night and we did summer proud with a Book club Barbecue! Our club just rocks the house with the coolest mix of women in the Northwest region! I kid you not. This go round one of our very brilliant members, Amy, had the great idea to have a book club free-for-all so this meeting we didn’t have an assigned book. Instead we all got to read whatever we wanted and do a quick report on it: what was it about? what did we think? anything special about it? would you recommend it? — All that sort of thing.
Wanna take a guess on which book was the most popular at this all girls meeting? Hope you weren’t thinking Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights or one of those lovely classics. Oh noooooo. That award solidly goes to Fifty Shades of Grey! Such naughty girls in our group! I loved the rousing conversation about it before we moved on to other more tepid offerings by some of the rest of us. I would list the assortment but I only remember a few of the titles and none of the authors. I do know however, that I found myself wanting to read most of them. And what I loved most about it was how the choices of book give you just a little glimmer into the person themselves. So cool.
We had five new members last night which was also so nice. Our club is inclusive — if you like women and wine and talking and are game to give us a try you’re welcome. Sometimes we scare people off but usually they stay and come on back.

Besides book talk though we had time for loads of chatting which our group is particularly outstanding at
and some great chowing. Everyone always brings along some of the best stuff and lovely bottles of wine. I served something extra spectacular. I can brag on it like that because well, it really was and because it was an original recipe kindly developed just for me by my Bake-Off friend Betsy! I put out a call on facebook in need of a recipe for my main character in the book I’m working so ridiculously constantly on and Betsy came to my rescue with the best ever recipe for granola bars! You are going to love these — when I finally share the recipe with you. I am so bad to tease you all this way but alas, these delicious bars (that’s them in the top spot on this post) got to debut only for my book clubbers and even they don’t get the recipe till the book comes out! It’s my new secret weapon for getting to the best seller list! I promise to post the recipe eventually but in the meantime a super loud, flippin sincere, shout out thanks to Betsy the Best!
Lastly I totally must send out a huge thanks to my guy. He certainly loves a free pass to hang out with a couple dozen women almost any time but he usually gets the boot. This meeting though, being a barbecue, we needed a griller and Glen was on point. He did great! He grilled, he poured, he clicked pictures, moved cars and did dishes. He stayed but he worked super hard! Bet he begs to go out next club meeting! Thanks honey!
Next club meeting is October 4th and we’re reading scary books next time. Can’t wait!

Had a fun time like alwayd. Loved the granola bars! Betsy did a great job!
