nyc — day 3

Well while I stepped upstairs to update you all on the happenings of the day last night, the girls were still at the party. Who imagined they could get in so much trouble in so little time?!?!  Turns out my two girls were the life of the party here at BlogHer 12! They got the dancing going, people were buying them drinks (that they happily accepted!) and they even got these great balloon hats made for them. They had a blast! I thought it all didn’t bode well however, for how today would go but they were both up and out early and feeling fine. Oh to be young and bounce back so fast!

This has been a great day of conferencing. The BlogHer organizers really know how to put together a good program. Anita and I started our day this morning  at the Newbie Breakfast to hear all about what we didn’t know. We met loads of other new-to-the-event bloggers as well. One of the things we’re both enjoying is that many women have smaller lifestyle blogs along the same lines as our own so we’re feeling right at home in the mix of it all. We’re meeting scores and scores of really talented, nice women. In fact, this morning, the organizers did something they call “speed dating” where two giant circles lined up all around the room and you talked to a person for a minute and then moved on. Anita and I both bout freaked when we heard what we were going to do — being sort of shy girls at heart — and almost left. So glad we didn’t! We loved it. Every woman we met was cool.

Our high point today — so far — was lunch with Martha Stewart! It was chaotic getting into the ballroom with so many women vying for space but a really nice time. The lunch was delicious — soups, sands and a killer quinoa salad — and Martha was her usual classy self. She talked about things we all could relate to as women and bloggers. And best of all — super generously — she gave every one of us at the conference — 5000 women — free year-long, on-line, subscriptions to all four of her magazines. We all went crazy for that!  So exciting — Living, Whole Living, Everyday Food, and Weddings. She looked great in a cute striped beige shirt with burnt orange capris and super cute platform orange shoes.

The rest of the time Anita and I have been in sessions but Tea took one for the team on this very hot day and headed down to Times Square to score half price tickets for a Broadway play tonight! So excited. We are skipping a couple of the conference events and heading out to see Rock of Ages. Guaranteed fun. And we’ll still get done in time to catch the last big party here at the conference tonight so the girls can work their magic on the crowd again. :)

That’s day three so far — like all the best things, the days are flying by too fast but we are working to make the absolute most of our time  together in this big ole giant size city. Hey, and one more fun random thing from today before I sign off. We came walking out of lunch and the Jimmy Dean Sunshine guy — complete with his happy sun suit went walking by. Missed a pic but I really like those clever ads and these kind of unexpected moments.
