staycay * vacay * hooray!

I am on vacation!  Woo Hoo! For a whole week! It’s been awhile since I’ve had a week off. Yes, you are one hundred percent right that I have managed to sneak away to Hawaii and our fun “cruise to nowhere” but I haven’t managed a week off since last November. Sometimes, bulk time away from the meetings and deadlines and routine of work is what you need most — and undoubtedly what my work group needs too! :)

This is the perfect week to be away. It’s a holiday week and those are always quieter; it’s my birthday week and those are always more fun; my boss is away to Europe; and a lot of my work group is off. Time to go!

So, that said, we’re not really “going” anywhere. Well, regular readers may remember we spent time last year during this week up at Orcas Island and, thanks to my kind sister and BIL, we do plan to do that again for a few days. We had a wonderful time on the island that was all decked out in full-on “Americana” — which I loved– but best of all there are far fewer fireworks going off to drive Dandy crazy and we are trying to keep him calm these days.

Around Orcas however, we’ve got some other plans from the mundane and routine to the high-flying fun. Today we’re shoppin! Going shoe shopping to be specific. And I have a couple other possible places I’d like to hit as well. Seems like a good day to check out somewhere fun for lunch too and if this drizzle goes away, a walk around Green Lake. Tomorrow I’m thinking the Farmers Market in the morning and cards with the parents in the afternoon. Monday is my chore day and the garage must be tackled! On Tuesday, I’m going to treat myself to reading my current book, “The Age of Miracles” by Karen Thompson Walker while I wait for my friend Tina to go through some gruesome eye tests to figure out what’s happening with her eyesight. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is completely about finishing that doggone book of mine! I swear it’s the simplest, modest book and the biggest challenge I have going on. Saturday day we’ll spend getting off the island but Saturday night we’re going for fondue with friends. Sunday is our anniversary and Monday is my mom’s birthday so we’re celebrating Sunday morning with one of our foursome’s favorite things to do — brunch at the Space Needle! Great place to celebrate our two big events and great way to note the end of my staycay.

What do you think? Pretty good line-up huh? I could really use two weeks cause this one is pretty full. It’s summer! Time to jam in the fun!
