we’re fierce, we’re fun, we’re zombies!

It was a meeting of the Chatty Chicks Culture Club last night and it was a crazy one! We were smaller in number than usual with graduations and vacations and just mystery reasons for members being gone, but those of us who made it had a great time together like usual. We decided last meeting to read a post apocalyptic book — books that take place after some sort of disaster changes all life as we know it. Many of those type books include zombie kinds of characters so we made coming as a zombie — or something related to that — part of our meeting requirements. Tons. Of. Fun!!  Can I just brag here that our club has the best members ever? We rise to the occasion every time and give it our best. Some of the chicks came already decked out and some were great sports and got decked out in zombie face when they got here. Everybody steps up and brings food and drinks and the more we meet the more we get to know each other the more fun it is. And a special shout out to our two newest members — Ambyr and Jeannie — who bravely came to their first club meeting on zombie night!

Brie really is who made this meeting get hit out of the park. She has an interesting job for a fishing association in Seattle and had access to all sorts of rescue/survival gear and dummies! That stuff made it! We had dead zombie people everywhere! Survival masks, survival blankets, survival food. We added in some eyeball decs that I had and messed up gauze to strewn about and we had pretty much the best zombie decorations anwhere!!  Check them out for yourself!

We started out with Zombie Bloody Bubblers — guava juice with champagne and one single drop of red food coloring to provide the bloody affect. With some gross sticky eyeballs, naturally clinging to the glass.

Our book, “Under the Never Sky” had NOTHING to do with zombies but who cares?!?  We didn’t know that when we voted for it last meeting and it did have flesh eaters in it. Now, in all honesty, despite the TWO MONTHS time, half our group didn’t read the book!  What the what? (Sounded like half of them were busy on “Shades of Grey. hmmm.”) We don’t require it though — we’re not a real strict club if you couldn’t tell. :)  However, the other half who did read the book mostly liked it. I can appreciate that this genre isn’t for everyone, and honestly it’s not the best wtitten book but hey, I wish I had written it! She’s a first-time author with a good story and her book has already been picked up to be a movie.

So we talked over the book while we had a mini craft project — making zombie marshmallows. They were great fun too and super easy to do successfully. Grab a bag of big marshmallows, get some candy eyeballs, and some food coloring felt pens and go crazy! Pop the gory zombie art on a sucker stick and you have a Zombiemallow! Scary!!! Toast it in a bonfire for a z’more. Get it? Z’more?  How I amuse myself. :)

We meet again in August for a more subdued, come in whatever you feel like wearing, BBQ book club meeting. And this time we are likely to have everyone read the book because they get to each choose the book! We’re having book club free for all with everyone reading something and giving us a quick report on thumbs up/thumbs down and whether others should read it too. Gonna be fun!  In the meantime, here’s a few photos to help make you sleep with one eye open tonight! :) (More pics in the next post.)
