Leap Year Love

It’s Sunday of a week with an extra day! Now’s the time for you to start thinking about just exactly how you’re going to use that extra time, or note somehow, this fairly rare occasion. Yes, I know it comes on a work day, and one right in the middle of the week at that, which rather limits many of our options, but that shouldn’t prevent us from noting it in some way.  For us, we’re using it as another reason to give to our favorite causes and that got me thinking about some of my favorite gifts and that got me thinking of something for you! So stay with me here cause we have our second giveaway and its a good one for a good cause.

Have you discovered any of the many organizations that offer products as one of the ways you can support them?  I am really partial to these — they bring smiles to the receiver and food, medicine, housing, water — life! — to people who need it most.  WIN and WIN! Here are some of my favorites:
The Feed Bag
This is one of my very favorites to give. By purchasing this bag, you provide not just food but medicine to children needing it around the world. It hardly gets better than that. Unbeknownst to me tell this morning when I went looking for a picture of one to share, they have come out now with a whole line of Feed Bags. Start a collection!  www.feedprojects.com

Kindness Clutch
While I am talking about bags let me also share the Kindness Clutch by Rachel Roy. This is another biggee on my list so much so that I got it as a gift from “me to me.” I love what it says, “Kindness is Always Fashionable” and that the money raised from this bag goes to helping children in Africa.  You can find one for yourself at www.RachelRoy.com

Altruette
I know this key chain doesn’t yet look like much, but I’m aspiring to the charm bracelet — so I can LOAD it with charms! I love this clever company and wish I had thought of it. It’s www.altruette.com and every charm you purchase represents a different cause.  Half the cost of every charm is donated to that cause. The charms are all, well, charming of course.  I have my eye on a hummingbird next but they have fruits, chalkboards, baby buggies, sports items — if you have a kind of cause you like they likely are supporting it.
Rwanda "New Africa" Bowl, 12"

Macy’s Rwanda Baskets

Every home should have one of these beautiful baskets Macy’s sells under their “Making a Difference” program and buys them from women in Rwanda who need jobs. I have given quite a few of these over the years, they change them out regularly and are priced to give at an average of $46 each.  You can check them out on www.Macys.com/campaign/rwanda

So are you ready for something for you?  I mean why not get in on the fun? Because it is one of my favorite gifts and a new twist on an old favorite, I am giving away to one lucky blog reader one of these special, very marvelous feed bags. Check this out: Purchasing this one bag provides meals for 50 school children in Haiti AND you get this very cool bag! My kind of giveaway. All you have to do for a very good chance at winning this bag, because I just don’t have that many followers or comments, is leave me a comment about your favorite charity.  There are so many good causes — I’m always interested in learning about more and love to support what the people in my life care about. And for my friends who have problems leaving a comment – not sure what happens some times with that — feel free to drop me an email or a message on facebook.  I’m all about easy! This little giveaway runs through the end of the day on Wednesday, February 29 — Leap Year Day.  Tell your friends!

Love it Julee! As you probably have guessed my favorite charity is Beads for Education. The aim is to keep young women in school so they won't be married off at 10-12 years old, and to teach their mothers skills to support her family. http://www.beadsforeducation.org.

The Charity I have been donating to lately is the Crohn;s and Colitis Foundation. My 3 daughters suffer from this disease . At this time there is no cure, with continued donations, we can hope for a cure in the near future!
